California State Treasurer Phil Angelides delivered the dynamic keynote address. Additionally, Mayor Willie Brown, Jr. (ret.) received the Political Legend Award, Miguel Contreras was presented with a Special Memorial Tribute, and Congresswoman Maxine Waters acted as a Special Guest Presenter. Other VIP Guest included Fabian Nunez, Speaker, California State Assembly.
Toni Guinyard of KCET Life and Times served as Mistress of Ceremonies. Serving as Co-sponsors of the event were Alejandro Stephens and Annelle Grajeda, President and General Manager, respectively, SEIU Local 660, Steven Bradford, Mayor Pro Tem, Gardena, and Eric Garcetti, L.A. City Councilman.
